Welcome to the 3M Australia team members who participated in my workshop at the 3M Innovation Centre where I asked to address the topic of “What women do to sabotage their career success”. People often ask me if I find it hard going to convince business about the benefits of taking women all the way to the top – but the reality is that most organisations that ask me to come and speak at their women’s forums and to leadership teams are already getting a lot right when it comes to advancing women. This is certainly true of 3M in Australia.
3M Australia already has above average representation of women in management roles and over the past 12 months has appointed 2 new female GMs to the executive team – no mean feat in an industrial business. The appointments of Carmen Byrne and Angela Ratcliffe mean 3M’s Australian MD now has an exec team comprising 15% women – almost double the ASX200 average. I also had the opportunity yesterday to meet one of the Good Guys of 3M – Gordon MdRonald – and it’s very clear to from my discussions with Gordon that the men in the business are as committed as anyone to advancing women through their ranks.
If you have a good news story like this to share, or you’d like to book me to speak to your team, drop me an email or give me a buzz in the sphinxx office on 1300 969 070 – I’d love to hear from you!
